The reason is simple; I can relate (just like CCY). Long distance relationship? Try 12 hours time difference. That was when I first watched the movie. But alas, life goes on.

Of course this wouldn’t be the same without its absolutely amazing visuals and beautiful soundtrack (I swear, I had the OST on repeat for a month before my DVD came). My only regret? Not getting the special edition. Too bad I’m not fluent enough in moonspeak cause the set looks fabulous.

I won’t go into too much detail about Detroit Metal City. Its a great comedy about a shy guy who wants has personality problems. In everyday life hes just a total wuss, but on stage hes got some serious attitude. And at 10 minutes an episode, each episode probably had me laughing from start to finish. I’m not exaggerating.

Sure I may not be popular like Yano and I may not be such a smooth talker like Yano, but I sure as hell can relate to him, his feeling and I can understand why he does the things he does. I chose episode 26 because it was, I’m my opinion, one of the more epic ways to end a shoujo.

[SPOILER] Also the fact that I, too, moved away form my (now ex) girlfriend. Although the anime doesn’t go into details about what happens later, I can tell you (based on the manga) its damn realistic and lets just say I sure can relate. [/SPOILER]

#9 : Since I was dead tired after work yesterday let me just fill in #9 right now. Rebuild of Evangelion 1.01, You Are (Not) Alone. Brings back the Gainax/Eva fanboy in me. ‘Nuff said.

Code Geass R2 brought me back to the BBT (before bit torrent) days of IRC. God how I missed the days when all the fans would gather on IRC channels just waiting for releases and chatting the night away about anything and everything anime related.

One of the more memorable moment was #anime-empire’s Slam Dunk release nights with their HUNHUNHUNHNHUNHUN spam. Code Geass did bring some of it back with GEASS SUNDAYS. Bored on a Sunday afternoon? There’s always fun to be had (I personally liked to spam in #gg but I’m sure there were other places too).

I picked 21 since it was this episode that :

• Lelouch defated his father Charles
• epic Charles torpedo meme was born
• I was shouting “ALL HAIL LELOUCH! ALL HAIL LELOUCH! ALL HAIL LELOUCH!”

So thanks R2, for all the fun & lulz.

ps. It seems like I’m not the only one who though Geass was a huge impact in 2008, regardless of whether you loved it or hated it. And I’m expecting to see  a few more “12 moments in Anime – GEASS” posts over the next few days. Hell I could do a “Twelve Moments in Code Geass R2″ thing if I wasn’t so fucking lazy.

Again with some explanations – 2005 and 2006 proved to be busy years for me, as I spent a lot of time studying and exploring every nook and cranny of my school (amongst other things). That left me with practically no time for anime so I was following one or two series per season (that is including Yakitatte! Japan). Aside from watching the current season’s offerings, I spent 2007 catching up with old shows such as Suzumiya Haruhi, Ouran High School Host Club, Honey and Clover etc. 2008  rolled around and I had just finished Code Geass over Christmas break.  What better way to start off 2008 than with an episode of Higurashi??

I think the Rika-head-to-kinfe-suicide bit captures the spirit of the series quite nicely. It has the “wow” factor, the “wtf” factor and of course it wouldn’t be Higurashi without some crazy bat shit insane laughter. I remember I finished the rest of the series in 3 nights after I watched episode 5 (and they were weeknights to boot, lets just say work was not fun the next morning)
