I spent 2 hours on Walfas.org’s Create a Touhou Character flash. Hes got some interesting things on his blog (including daily flash!)

First of all, some quick thoughts on some many Fall shows -

Below Expectiations:
Hyakko – The art just bugs me, and the Yuno-ish lead is depressing to watch. And plus if I wanted to watch a show with Yuno as the lead, I should finish Hidamari Sketch x365 first. (score: F for art and humor fail).
Shikabanehime Aka – This ones a toss up. You must remember, just cause a show is blow my expectation doesn’t mean it sucks (except for Kameko DX). Maybe I expected too much, being the Gainax fanboy that I am. I totally forgot my favourite Gainax works were all original works. Either way, I was expecting alot more action, and some actual storyline. I’m not getting alot of either in the first three episodes (score: D for double Uzis)
Kameko DX – I couldn’t even sit through the first episode (score: F for fuck I can’t watch this shit)
Yozakura Quartet – Nothing really interests me except for Hime. It’s still a so-so show but I’d rather watch Soul Eater. (score: E, not for excellent, that’s for sure)
Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka – Kugu Rei in a non-tsundere loli role? The story is started to pick up in episode 2 only to fall flat on its ass in episode 3. Plus you can still hear bits of her tsundere loli voice in ep 3 already. (score: C for could be better, but not bad)
Mouryou no Hako – mindfucked. (score: E for ‘efffffing hell is this shit?)

Just as Keikaku:
Sequels like Clannad ~After Story~, and Gundam 00 Season 2 pretty much left off wherever they stopped last fall (score: A for both).
Michiko to Hatchin – for me, the animation feels like there’s some Disney styled animation mixed in there. Its not a bad thing… actually quite interesting. Plot wise, its ok so far. I do want to stab Hana’s parents in the face though. (score: n/a)
Toradora - TAIGA ROLLLLLLLLLLL! (score: B for BANIRA SORUTO de)
Chaos;Head - Very nice animation, great story, lots of coke and a male lead that could give Shinji a run for his money. Great stuff, just as I expected. (score: A- for.. argh I’m tired of trying to come up with no-so-funny comments)
Kannagi - Imageboards are totally flooded with Nagi drawings, I don’t really understand why. Good solid show. (score: B-)

Beyond expectations/FABULOUS!
Tales of the Abyss – Yeah definitely one of the better rpg to anime adaptations I’ve seen in the past few years. Bump of Chicken’s Karma is also a plus. And while some people (I forgot whos blog I was reading) thinks its cute (wtf) I think Ion’s lisp is annoying as hell. Or maybe I’m just bitter that he’s a trap. (score: B)
Gai-Rei Zero – “WTF” and in a good way. (score: A+)
Toaru Majutsu no Index – Loli nun, and loli alchoholic smoker. Mikoto is fine too (I thought the scene where she brushes her hair with her hand and lightning comes out was absolutely awesome). (score: A)

So I woke up today to the sounds of MSN message spammage at around 9am. Apparently I was supposed to be playing MGS4 online with a friend. By the time I got everything downloaded and set up it was 10 something, and we played for a few hours. Very reminiscent of my days spent playing CS (apparently still a topseller on Steam? wtf) I was expecting my copy of Star Ocean – First Encounter to arrive today, but it didn’t so I’m kinda disappointed about that :/ I did finish FF VII – Crisis Core last week (finally!). I think Ritchan beat it in like less than 2 weeks, while I’ve had mine since… umm May I think. The game is just ok, definitely overhyped. I just spent a few minutes playing with materia fusion to get some spell that also adds 80% HP. After that, its just spam X for the win. I basically knew the whole storyline before I started playing, but the game was still kinda fun. And as usual, SQEENIX fanboyiism for the lovely cg cutscenes.

Recently, I’ve been wanting an Xbox360 more and more, so I can play Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean 4 next year. I swear, if SO4 is Xbox exclusive, Microsoft will of finally won me over. While, we’re on the topic of consoles, has anyone seen this godly modded PS3 yet? (at the time of writing this post, it is going for $17,000 USD)

Well it’s like 1am. Nothing I can do about it till I wake up tomorrow. Not too worried about not getting my game. It seems like noone was home at this wrong address (thus why I got a voicemail about it… unfortunately my cellphone was out of batteries most of the day and I didn’t find out until 15 minutes ago… -_-)

However, I love my PS3 even if I never end up finishing any of the games I get (Guitar Hero III? MGS4? GTA IV? Elder Scrolls VI?). For those of you who don’t know, the PS3 really lacks good RPGs. Yeah, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is fine and all, but honestly its too dark for me. Assassin’s Creed? Never played it but my answer will probably be the same. Sure it was fun running around killing townsfolk and guards in Oblivion, but I never really got into the storyline.

I ordered my copy of Disgaea3 about 2 weeks after it’s North American release via PlayAsia and I love these guys! Put in the order at 1am on Thursday, and on Friday I got a phone call from the delivery guy but I wasn’t at home so he came back Saturday morning. Free shipping too!

There are people out there who criticize D3 for it’s “not worthy of a PS3″ sprites, but I’m a sucker for these types of RPGs. For someone who’s never played any Disgaea before, the tuorials were easy to follow and the gameplay was fun (though I’ve heard complaints that it is very similar to the first two Disgaea games). The problem I have with turn based rpgs is that I get bored mashing the attck menu button. Thus I’ve always been drawn more towards the Star Ocean Second Story and Legend of Mana type games.

Although D3’s gameplay is turn-based, the fact that you can at move around makes it must more appealing that the menu based RPGs. It calls for some strategic placement and movement of your party (of 10 !?) and the throwing system is super fun (although I always forget about throwing Prinny and he explodes and dies orz). The magichange and item/classroom world system is kinda cool too, though I haven’t used those much. (I’m pretty sure Manga, uses it alot more than I do.)

Great things about Disgaea 3

• to play through the story, you don’t really need to level grind. With some half decent stratergy you can probably taken on monsters that are much higher level than your party.
• you can get through the story very very quickly (great for someone like me who doesn’t actually have alot of time to devote to Disgaea 3), but there are alot of things to see and do in Desgaea besides the main storyline. Item world, classroom world, unlocking several generic classes, etc. (They don’t put a level cap of 9999 for no reason.)
• Sprites are rare these days, and I love them
• Sapphire and Raspberyl
• Ufotable

My one minor complaint, is that the English voices and get annoying, especially Raspberyl’s, which is a shame because even though I don’t use her much in the game, she’s an awesome character. In the end, I switched to the Japanese track after chapter 1.

The storyline is entertaining, the jokes usually hit and the characters are very likeable. I’d recommend this game to anyone, like me, who has not gotten into Disgaea franchise yet. You don’t need any prior knowledge before picking this game up (but then again, what kind of otaku doesn’t know Flonne and Etna?) and you can play this as much (or as little) as you want! I Finished the first cycle (played through the storyline once) in under 35 hours of playtime, but there is much much more to this world and now I’m off to explore it.

On a semi related note, I finished my first cycle of Disgaea3 last week (thus the lack of posts the past few weeks). More on that later this week … maybe.

I guess an excuse for the lack of posts is in order… letsee… so we have:

• lack of motivation(and ikimashou.net going kaboom didnt help)
• work work
• trip home to Toronto
• PS3

Lets start with the first one. For reasons out of my control, ikimashou.net is no longer alive. That being said, Randall was kind enough to transfer my blog over to his other domain at dasaku.net. So I owe him a big thank you for the fast and easy move. Next.

Lots of work… and studying. But mostly work.
Oh and nothing says “distraction” like a 16 hour flight back to Toronto! Enjoying the snow I’ve missed oh so much! Hong Kong has been cold this year.. so I feel kinda ripped off since it’s so cold yet there is no snow ~_~; I like snow.

Lastly… the king of all distractions… I got a PS3 for Christmas… and I’ve been playing Elder Scrolls IV with most of my free time (whenever I’m not playing CIV 4 that is). I never played ES I – III so I’m not used to the leveling system and the leveled dungeons. It’s like the first game I’ve ever played where I DON’T want to level -_-; Hrmm I’ll probably pick up Guitar Hero III and Rockband too… so yay for more distractions?

Ok so the lack of motivation thing was not really just ikimashou.net going boom. I just … don’t feel like blogging about what I watch. In the past month I have put: Shion no Ou, Sketchbook~Full Colour’s, Higurashi, Kimi-kiss, ef and Bamboo Blade all on hold. Maybe I’ll pick them back up in the future…. ???

Also, Suckugan no Shanarrrr II is still um.. sucking… but getting better, I am feeling less excited about Clannad with each passing week, and out of the 3 new shows I picked up (Minami-Ke Okawari, Shigofumi, Spice & Wolf) to replace the 6 I put on hold, I’m already considering dropping 2 of them.

So a quick review of the shows I have finished since my last post!

Code Geass – Despite all the Pizza Hut ads, I really enjoyed this series. What, with Orange-kun and robo Orange-kun, who wouldn’t? And CC? She’s just awesome. I will definitely pick up the second season when it airs. Oh and -1 for the WTF ending.

Moyashimon – The premise was interesting… boy who can see bacteria? The cast was top notch (goth research assistant chick anyone?)… but someone PLEASE tell me why Kei was crossdressing in the final 2-3 episodes?? I think an explanation other than “I wanna try everything” is in order here. The most disturbing thing is that Mako-cakes actually has competition for best looking trap. Oh I’ll bump this series up a notch if I can find an Aspergillus oryzae plushie.

Baccano! – The catchy OP got me watching… no seriously… if it wasn’t for the OP I probably would of just ignored Baccano! (I have it as my ringtone on my cell now XO). Ummm the storyline was mildly confusing and such… and the cast was just HUGE. Huge cast + confusing storyline that jumps all over the place = @_@;

Minami-ke – One of the best comedies I’ve seen in a while. Lesee… we have an awsome main cast, with Kana (who is BOSS), Haruka (who is amazing), and Chiaki … then we throw in Hosaka who is always half naked and strips for no reason, Mako-cakes who is WAY to comfortable being Mako-Cakes and sprinkle some Fujioka and Touma ontop… and voila… you have ourself a grade A comedy! Will definately be watching Okawari (even though the original Minami-ke set the standard way too high). And I *so* want that “I AM BOSS” shirt Kana wears…

Anyways… thats it. I’m hoping my posts in the future will be less anime related… I really don’t have much to say anyways ~_~;; Plus I’m too busy playing GH3  studying.
