It’s almost time for the Spring 2008 season! Historically, the spring season is one of my favorites, although it’s looking a bit weak this year. Nevertheless, the past month, I’ve finished off most of what I have been watching so its time for a quick review!

So one day, like most, I was on Jason’s blog and happened to stumble across something called Hidamari Sketch. Although I’ve heard of it, I never really knew, nor did I bother finding out what it was about. But things look so different when you only other alternative is studying. So needing a break from studying, I glanced over a few brief summaries I though to myself “Hrmmm.. seems like my kinds of anime!” And so my Hidamari marathon began…

I can easily say that I was not a big fan of KyoAni/Key’s 2 previous game-turned-anime attempts. It really annoyed me how their mouths were always so close to their noses! Yet I had to see what all the hype surrounding Clannad was about (that and I needed a rebound anime after Gurren Lagann).

When I first started watching Gurren Lagann I never expected that I would be so into it! I didn’t even start watching until after episode 6 aired. That being said… this has to be one of my favourites this year. Maybe I just have a thing for GAINAX mecha shows… I mean look at FLCL. I loved it. Mahoromatic (well its not really mecha… )? Not bad. Evangelion? Yes I quite enjoyed that too (although I watched it in Cantonese, so I sat there for 20 minutes doing nothing but being bored during the last episode since I can’t read Chinese).
So what makes Gurren Lagann such a good series? Why did I come home every Monday night, throw off my shoes and check forthe latest Gurren Lagann release? Why was I totally hyped?
