Someone please explain to me why they are diving on opposite sides of the road:

Yayoi is sitting on the left side suggesting she’s driving on the right side of the road

Eiji is sitting on the right side suggesting he’s driving on the left side of the road

someone care to explain?

  1. Yayoi is driving an imported german car (BMW) which are left-hand drive in Germany. Eiji looks to be driving a small british car that looks like a mini which is right hand drive. Doesn’t mean they drive on the wrong side of the road, just makes it a bit more challenging to drive :D

  2. In Japan there is no specific laws which says you must drive a car with the same hand drive to the country’s standard, and basically you can import a foreign car as long as you have money. So rich people would privately import European cars or American cars (especially ones that are not officially imported into the country ie with no right-hand drive conversion model) to show off how much money they have, it’s a status symbol to have a foreign car. So people with these imported cars would drive left-hand drive cars on the left side of road, even though in Japan the “standard” is right-hand drive/left side. You can see this a lot in rich areas of Tokyo like Roppongi, where people would drive Ferraris Porsches Corvettes or Dodges with left-hand drive on the weekends as they come out partying.

  3. @ kimagure & houkoholic : oohh I SEE WHAT THEY DID THERE. Thanks for clearing that up

I wonder if it’s actually a law saying that you must have the steering wheel on a certain side … or if Japan is one of the few countries that don’t require you to have your steering wheel on a certain side of a car. Need to do abit of research on that one.

  4. It’s not just Roppongi. I saw ghetto Hummer H2s and Tahoes (WITH SPINNAZ!) in Ueno, for example. Japanese sure have the taste for the worst America has to offer.

In another anime example, Taiga’s father drives a LHD Bimmer.

  5. Vey interesting observation there Coke >_>

On the flipside, I’ve seen a few foreign cars in Japan myself (albeit at a glance), but none like a hummer…

  6. Suddenly, White Album is more REAL than it seems.
