The Coke Machine

Fist off, I don’t know if I should thank issa-sa for writing about Antique bakery, or hate issa-sa for writing about Antique Bakery. I’ve started calling this show Gaykery, and its a perfectly accurate description.

The first episode was gay beyond anything imaginable, except for maybe Gravitation? I thought it was a space anime… but OH MY GOD WAS I WRONG. Anywho…

Gaykery is about some rich guy (Keisuki Tachibana) who quits his high paying job and opens a french pastery shop because he had suffered a horrible traumatizing past involving cakes? (damn those those evil evil things) He enlists the help of Keisuke Ono, the Genius baker who is known to have the “Gay of Demonic Charm” (gg’s translation, not mine); Eji Kanada, former lightweight boxing champ (?) who can’t box anymore; and looking at the OP, some guy with sunglasses who is probably a hard gay as well. And did I mention Ono confessed his love for Tachibana back in highschool? And that he’s a flaming homo?

So everyone knows I’m a sucker for strange/awesome OPs, and Gaykery does not disappoint here. The whole background is a 3d model of the bakery shop, but all like cardboard cutouts! (for some reason this reminds me of some old stop-motion shows I used to watch as a kid). The song is also very fitting but nothing spectacular to rave about.

Of course an awesome OP is not reason enough for me to get off my lazy ass and blog about (heck I still have Slayers and Somedays Dreamers to write about over a Yukan) but the first episode made me laugh so much, I thought I was going to die.

Anyways, this show is broken and I love it. Its like on a whole other level of brokeness (I wonder if I can convince Jason to watch this).

And ohbytheway. If you are homophobic, well the second episode cuts back on the gayness (a little too much, if you ask me) so if you were scared off by episode 1, you may want to reconsider.

Random thought: I wonder if going to an all boys highschool helped me overcome my fear of gays? I mean I did see some really messed up things in those four years there; guys wearing makeup, guys in skirts, random penises? (whats the plural for that?). Gaykery is too toned down for the crap I’ve witnessed.
