I lol’ed when I came across this post of DarkMirage slaughtering the Nyoro~n sub of G*nd*m 00 ep 3 ….

When picking subs I always lean more towards quality over speed and subbers with history over newly formed groups. However, when the wait gets too long (ie more than 2 months after it airs?) then I’ll usually give in and go for the speed subs that came out ages ago by that group no one has heard of. The problem I have is that I don’t understand Japanese very well… (WELL DUH. If I could I’d probably watch it raw) and sure I can watch Naruto without translations, but that’s only because they spend 4 episodes standing around being constipated like a DBZ character. Not being able to understand Japanese well makes the accuracy of the sub very important. Maybe even more-so than visual appeal. I for one don’t really care for the fancy Karaoke OPs that mostly everyone has nowadays. As LordBrian from The-Triad puts it :
“We know you bitches are out there, and we hate your guts. In the past, we have done simple karaoke for most of the songs, but we still get complaints from people because it’s not flashy enough, there’s no flying bullets, where are the explosions and bouncing pantsu, etc. Apparently you do not watch the openings and endings for the songs, you watch it for the eyecandy. We don’t sub for the eyecandy, we sub for the anime. If you’re not there to watch the goddamn show, don’t bother with our releases.“
And it’s so true! I usually only watch an OP if:
- the song is really good and the single is not out yet (Clannad?)
- it’s the the first episode
- it’s the last episode
- if its a new OP
Back on topic. Yes I know people put their free time into subs, but if you are not going to make a sub that is at least semi accurate then do us a favour, don’t sub. Its not like the world will end if Nyoro~n doesn’t release G*nd*am 00 episode 3 the same day it airs ~_~; This post is just a friendly reminder that fans like me watch subs because we don’t understand enough Japanese to watch it raw. So let’s not forget the reason why subs exist in the first place, for fruit sake!
P.S. I replaced my Nyoro~n subs of Gurren Lagann a while ago but this is going too far. Thanks for making all anime fans look like ungrateful asses. He said he already learned his lesson!
